Abstract

The research deals with the account of the transfer of Hector’s bones from the Troad region to Boeotian Thebes. The most important thing that distinguishes the story of the transfer of Hector’s bones from Troy to Thebes is its strangeness in that the hero mentioned here is a Trojan hero. What would make a Greek city seek to possess the bones of a hero of enemies or from the defeated Trojan side? The research looks at the idea of sanctifying the bones of Greek heroes and transporting them from one city to another. The research also discusses the origin of the cult of Hector in Asia Minor in general and in the Troad region in particular. In addition to discussing some researchers’ opinions on the Greek origin of the character of the Trojan hero, Hector, and the relationship of this Asian hero to the Greeks. Thus, the researcher aims to analyze the mutual connection between the myth of the hero Hector and his cult. The researcher seeks to explain the claim of the existence of Hector’s bones in Thebes through the few sources that dealt with this story, as well as to confirm the existence of the cult of this hero in Greek cities, and finally to explain the phenomenon of Hector’s cult in Thebes. In this research, the researcher will rely on analytical, comparative, and historical approaches.
