Publication and study of a unique stamp mould of the god "Bes" in the Egyptian Museum

Abstract

This research discusses the publication and study of a unique stamp mould of the god "Bes" housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo under special register number (S.R. 18953) in 1953. According to Museum's archives, this collection came to the Museum from both an unknown provenance and historical period. Hence the importance of the research, as it tries to answer the most important questions: Where was the stamp mould found, and to which era does it belong? This is done with an attempt to identify the function of the stamp mould, and the significance of depicting the god "Bes" on it. The study assumes that this piece is a stamp mould, not an amulet mould. The research methodology relied on a descriptive frame work. The analytical utilized a comparison of some similar models of mould decoration to derive scientific results. It concluded with discussion of the results. We also discuss a quick overview of the uses of seals and their artistic value. And its cultural and archaeological context, and through the foregoing, it is likely to determine the function of the mold and its artistic style.
