From the thirty-eight poems that form Horace’s first book of the “Odes”, seven poems discuss love themes. His main concern was not to discuss romantic relationships in these poems, but to prove his ability to imitate Greek themes and shape them into a Roman mold as well as using the (contaminatio) between various literary genres and eventually come out with a Roman love song. Besides, we find Horace using love themes to keep his distance from discussing serious matters, or to make amends for past poems in which he attacked a public figure. The researcher analyzes Horace’s love poems along with marking the past Greek, Hellenistic, and Roman impact upon him to show the poet’s renovation in his poems.
