Abstract

Aristophanes (446 BC to 386 BC) was one of those interested in his society's literary and political affairs during the fifth century BC. His plays testify to his full knowledge of the social situation that Athens reached during the Peloponnesian Wars (431 BC to 404 BC). Aristophanes used his plays to express his political and literary views and was able to express his ideas in satirical comedic language. He used grammar to rhetorically attack his opponents; In a previous study, the researcher presented how Aristophanes employed diminutives to ridicule and contempt his opponents. In this research paper, Aristophanes has used indefinite and interrogative pronouns in presenting political issues sometimes and at other times, ridiculing the bitter reality that Athens was experiencing during the fifth century BC. The indefinite pronouns "τις, τι" and the interrogatives "Τίς, Τί" are functional morphemes that change their state according to their function in the sentence. It is clear in the minds; it came to perform the function of linking two words or a group of other words. Indefinite pronouns also lead to confusion and ambiguity of meaning.
