Abstract

This research publishes and studies a tombstone preserved in El Bahnasa
museum store registered. Its record number is (F433). Its rectangular in
shape; its dimensions are 52 cm. height, 45 cm. wide, 23 cm. thick. Its place
of discovery is unknown. Its best state of preservation. The tombstone
presents a bust of young man standing wears a pallium. He is wearing a
style of cloak that holds the arm; thus, his right hand is holding the cloak at
the chest area where the fingers look to be holding it, and his left hand is
clutching what might have been a wreath.
Comparison and analytical study reveal that this tombstone is similar
to many tombstones that were found in the Bahnasa area in Minia; such as
the tombstone no. (8616) preserved in the Coptic Museum. By comparing
with similar examples and by analyzing the cloak worn by the young man
and his hairstyle, we can say that this tombstone dates back to the period
between the third century AD and the beginning of the fourth century AD.
