Reconstruction of Niobe’s Tragedy of Aeschylus in the light of Papyri fragments

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to reconstruct the scenes of the play “Niobe “of the Greek tragedian poet Aeschylus (525-456 BC). Depending on new lines which come from two main sources first: surviving testimonies of ancient writers, second: new Papyri discovered in the sand of Egypt .Which help us to sketch out the basic plot of the play. The total number of lines before our study was 23 lines, but the total number of the play after we suggest some new fragments lines became 61 lines. The Paper will also discuss the history of the tragedian poet in Papyri, and the achievement of writers who spot light on his Play during the recent years, and the main sources of the myth which Aeschylus drived the Plot from it. The study contains three main points: Aeschylus and fragments of Niobe’s tragedy, the sources of Niobe’s myth, and Reconstruction of Niobe’s tragedy according to new fragments.
